The area scanner is used for non contact measurement of strain or compression of specimen at uniaxial load. Thereby the strain can be measured distributed over the specimen area.

Therefore a parallel scanner is extended with a moveable mirror. This allows to displace the scan beam horizontally. So it is possible to measure the strain at up to 250 discrete positions.
